Germany, Heer. An Officer’s Dagger, Reduced Version, by Alcoso, Solingen
(Heer Offiziersdolch Miniatur). An extremely well-preserved Heer Officer’s Dagger, salesman miniature version, measuring 240 mm in length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 155 mm-long silver-plated magnetic metal blade with a sharpened tip and edges. The blade presents plain with the exception of a maker’s mark near the reverse ricasso of “ALCOSO, SOLINGEN”, circumscribing the firm’s scale logo. The blade sits securely within the nickel-silver upper crossguard, with an intact buffer pad covering the seam. The obverse of the crossguard consists of a raised Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, while the reverse presents plain. A nickel-silver ring bearing raised oak leaves transitions into a handle with a ribbed orange celluloid grip. The dagger completes with a flattened circular pommel, also bearing raised oak leaves around the circumference. A decorative portepee is wrapped around the handle underneath the crossguard, constructed of silver aluminum wire and completing in a metallic acorn. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a pebbled magnetic metal shaft. The upper third of the scabbard features dual integrated rings bearing raised oak leaf designs, each completing in a ring for the accommodation of a dagger hanger. The throat retains a functional spring catch, securely holding the dagger in place during storage. With the exception of the loss of some of the silver finish near the tip of the blade, it is in an extremely fine condition.
