Germany, RLB. A Reich Air Protection League Dress Bayonet
(Reichsluftschutzbund Bajonett). An extremely well-preserved Reich Air Protection League (RLB) dress bayonet, measuring 395 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 250 mm-long polished magnetic metal blade with a sharpened tip and unspoiled edges, with a fuller running down the length of each side. The blade sits securely within a one-piece nickel-plated zink alloy hilt with a hooked quillon and insertion slot retaining a functional spring catch with push-button release. An intact brown leather buffer pad lines the seam where the blade and hilt meet, while an original red wool insert remains within the slot. The handle grip is composed of two pieces of pebbled black bakelite, secured together with dual magnetic metal rivets. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a silvered bronze RLB insignia measuring 24 mm (w) x 24 mm (h). It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a black-painted magnetic metal shaft. A downward-pointing hook emanates from the side of the shaft for attachment to a frog. The throat retains a functional spring catch, securely holding the bayonet in place during storage, and is held together with a single side rivet. Both the bayonet and scabbard are fully unmarked. Minor, age-appropriate issues are evident, including some running marks to the blade and slight oxidation of the metal features. The bayonet is in an overall extremely fine condition.
