Germany, Heer. A K98 NCO’s Dress Bayonet
(Heer Bajonett). A very well-preserved Heer K98 NCO’s dress bayonet, measuring 365 mm in length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 190 mm-long nickel-plated magnetic metal blade with a sharpened tip and unsharpened edges. The blade presents with fullers on each side and is plain, with the exception of a maker’s mark on the obverse ricasso in reading “E.U.F. HÖRSTER, SOLINGEN”, along with the company’s logo. The blade sits securely within the nickel-plated upper crossguard, itself featuring a hooked quillon, with the seam covered by a blackened leather washer. The handle grip consists of two pieces of stag horn held in place by dual magnetic metal rivets. It completes with a pommel bearing an insertion slot with a functional spring button. The bayonet is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of blackened magnetic metal, which shows only minimal loss of paint. The shaft bears an integrated clip for attachment to a frog, and the throat retains a functional spring catch, securely holding the bayonet in place during storage. Some oxidation is evident to the blade and nickel-plated features, but the bayonet is in an overall better than very fine condition.
