Germany, Wehrmacht. A Fighting Knife, by Puma
(Kampfmesser). A well-preserved fighting knife, measuring 26.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features an 11 cm-long magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and lower edge. The blade is plain with the exception of the “PUMA” mark of Lauterjung & Sohn, Solingen. It sits securely within a hilt featuring an exposed tang and flattened crossguard, with the grip consisting of two pieces of dark brown wood secured together with three magnetic metal rivets. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a magnetic metal shaft with a black leather belt hanger riveted to the reverse. Issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include oxidation to the blade, loosening of the crossguard, scratching of the handle grip, and loss of scabbard paint. The knife remains in a very fine condition.
