Germany, Kriegsmarine. An Officer’s Dagger, by Carl Eickhorn

(Kriegsmarine Dolch). An extremely well-preserved Kriegsmarine officer’s dagger, measuring 420 mm in total length. Featuring a 250 mm-long nickel-silver plated magnetic metal blade, with the grooved obverse and reverse bearing a richly-detailed, acid etched design displaying a central anchor, topped by a trident within oak leaves, with a bottom serpentine design. The obverse bears a maker’s mark of “Original Eickhorn, Solingen”, along with the firm’s logo of a squirrel clutching a sword. The ricasso features a functional spring catch, with a stud release set into the gilded bronze upper crossguard, itself bearing a raised anchor. The crossguard transitions into a light brown celluloid handle, wrapped with a twisted copper cord. The dagger completes with a pommel, presenting as an ornate German national eagle perched atop a wreathed mobile swastika. Wrapped around the upper crossguard and lower handle is a portepee, constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire, completing in an acorn-style knotted arrangement. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of gilded bronze. The throat is held together with two visible rivets, while dual bands presenting with twisted rope designs ring the upper portion, each bearing a loop with an interior diameter of 20 mm to accommodate a dagger hanger. With the exception of minor tarnishing and running marks to the blade, the dagger is in an extremely fine condition.
