Germany, Luftwaffe. An Officer’s Dress Dagger, by Stocker & Co.

(Luftwaffe Offiziersdolch). A well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s dress dagger, measuring 42 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 26.5 cm-long nickel-plated magnetic steel dagger with a sharpened tip and edges. Acid-etched onto the blade is a double-sided arabesque design, with the obverse featuring an additional central Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. Stamped onto the reverse ricasso is the logo of Stocker & Co., Solingen, topped by the firm’s classic seated king logo. The blade sits securely within a silver-plated alloy upper crossguard, bearing a raised Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika on the obverse, with the seam covered by an intact black leather buffer pad. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of ribbed light brown celluloid, with the ribbing retaining an original twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire cord. It completes with a pommel bearing a double-sided wreathed mobile swastika, screwing in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a pebbled magnetic metal shaft with double-sided oak leaf designs near the tip. The upper third of the shaft features two integral oak leaf bands retaining suspension loops for the accommodation of a hanger. The latter is included and consists of two field-grey doeskin straps, each topped with silver aluminum wire tresses, retaining silvered zink buckles and spring catches for dagger and uniform attachment. Issues consistent with age and use are evident, and include some loss of finish to the silver plated features, minor scratching to the handle grip, finish loss and surface oxidation to the scabbard, and some material fatigue to the handle. The dagger is in an overall very fine condition.
