Germany, Wehrmacht. A Close Combat Knife
(Kampfmesser). An extremely well-preserved close combat knife, measuring 29 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 15 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and lower edge. Unmasked, the blade emanates from an exposed tang with a handle grip consisting of two pieces of dark brown wood, secured in place with three magnetic metal rivets. The crossguard features a hooked quillon to protect the user during use. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. The reverse retains a tight integral clip for uniform attachment. The throat retains a functional spring clip to firmly hold the knife in place during storage. Minor issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include some tarnishing of the blade and tang, with sporadic scratching of the scabbard. It remains in a near extremely fine condition.
