A Mint SS Honour Dagger (Ehrendolch) by the Metalwaffenfabrik Stöcker & Co.
A mint and extremely well preserved SS Honour Dagger (Ehrendolch der SS) of outstanding workmanship by the Solinger Metallwarenfabrik Stöcker & Co. The dagger measures 372 mm with the scabbard on, and features a complete and untempered 219 mm nickel-plated magnetic steel blade, exhibiting beautiful cross-graining; in near mint condition with only minor marks common to extraction and return to the scabbard. It is unsharpened with a semi sharp tip, and maker marked “RZM 1198/39 SS” on the reverse ricasso. The blade is diamond shaped, with the obverse of the blade acid etched with the SS motto, “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” (My word is my honour). The crossguard is that of the nickel plated aluminum kind, and has stood the test of time with only very minor marks, with with eight deep, but undarkened groves, without a district or bench mark. The ebony hardwood grip is handcrafted and stained using aniline dye. The national eagle (Hoheitszeichen) sits snug in its place and level with the wood without significant gaps between the eagle and the grip. The roundel sits equally snug and flush with the wood grip, featuring SS runes with black enamels. The scabbard is constructed of painted black steel (magnetic) with nickel fittings, and all original fastening screws. The scabbard measures 247 mm long, with only minor scratches from storage. Overall, this dagger is in mint condition, with the blade excellently preserved, but the grip slightly loose - most likely from shrinkage of the wood through age, and with small marks on the scabbard.
