Germany, SA. A Reduced Size Salesman Sample SA Dagger
(SA-Dolch). A Sturmabteilung (SA) dagger, measuring 185 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 110 mm-long magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and edges. The obverse of the blade bears a blackened inscription of “ALLES FÜR DEUTSCHLAND” (“EVERYTHING FOR GERMANY”) in Fraktur script. It sits securely within a nickel silver-plated upper crossguard, marked with eight notches. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of lacquered dark brown wood, inset on the obverse with a silvered German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, as well as a partially silvered SA insignia. Completing the dagger is a nickel silver-plated lower crossguard, similarly marked with eight notches, secured in place with a rounded pommel nut which maintains the dagger’s structural integrity. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a brown-painted magnetic metal shaft with nickel silver-plated fixtures secured to both the tip and throat with dual side rivets. Also emanating from the throat is an integral loop for the accommodation of a dagger hanger. Moderate loss of finish is evident to the plated elements, but the dagger remains in an overall near extremely fine condition.
