A Fine Example of a HJ Knife (Fahrtenmesser) by F.W. Holler of Solingen
This is an extremely well preserved textbook example of a HJ knife (Fahrtenmesser). It measures 252 mm with the scabbard on and features a completely untouched 140 nn long brushed steel (magnetic) blade, with a sharpened edge and an all-original tip. The blade is etched on the obverse with “Blut und Ehre” (Blood and Honour) and features the maker mark “RZM M7/33” for “F.W. Holler of Solingen”. It retains its beautiful crossgraining, with only light scratches common to extraction and return to the scabbard, and with its natural shine. The thick blackened-brown leather washer at the crossguard junction sits firmly in place. The crossguard consists of a rounded finger guard, with a signature black bakelite grip plates on either side of the grip. The grips are held in place via two rivets with a HJ diamond embedded into the obverse of the grip. Light surface marks ordain the hilt from proud period wear, but without major scratches. The scabbard is constructed of black painted steel (magnetic) with two coated metal springs on the interior that hold the knife in place once returned to the scabbard. The leather scabbard hanger is constructed of blackened leather and is attached to the scabbard via two rivets, and featuring a belt-hoop and a snap closure to hold the knife in place. Overall this HJ knife shows very light and gentle signs of wear, but is otherwise extremely well preserved, and in extremely fine condition.
