A Government Official's Dagger by Alexander Coppel

A Government Official's Dagger by Alexander Coppel - This Alcoso made Government Official's Dagger is in better than very fine overall condition; Measuring 390 mm with the scabbard, this dagger features a 260 mm nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, with unsharpened edges, remaining bright and crisp, and a semi-sharp tip. The blade's reverse ricasso is maker marked Alexander Coppel GmbH (Alcoso), Solingen, with the company's balance of scales logo. It retains its crossgraining, with faint scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, and a natural shine, with some surface wear throughout, the blade rating very fine. The thin blue leather washer at the crossguard junction is intact. The flamboyant, left-facing, spread-winged eagle sitting upon a wreathed swastika insignia is finely-detailed and dark toned, with light wear and contact evident. The ferrule is trimmed in narrow accent rules on both sides, simulated Mother-of-Pearl celluloid plates are embedded into the handle on both sides, while the pommel is in the form of a stylized, well-defined eagle's head, with crisp definition in the feathering. Grip is held in place with a spanner nut, dual recessed points on the nut' end. It retains all of its silvering throughout the hilt, with contact present, the dagger measuring 370 mm in length. The scabbard is nicely pebbled, dark toned, magnetic, the bands exhibiting the traditional oak leaves and acorns design, each with rings, two side screws holding the throat in place, free of dents, scattered light gilt wear evident overall, the scabbard measuring 280 mm in length.
