A Numbered Postal Protection Leader's Dagger by Paul Weyersberg & Co., Solingen
A fine example of this scarce dagger featuring a nickel-plated steel blade, with unsharpened edges, remaining bright and crisp, having a very sharp tip. The blade's reverse ricasso is maker marked with the Paul Weyersberg & Co., Solingen insignia incorporating a downward-pointing sword inside an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves, while the blade itself retains its beautiful crossgraining, with scratches, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, scattered surface wear, natural shine, rating extremely fine. The black leather washer at the crossguard junction is in intact. Nickel-plated fittings on both the crossguard and the pommel, the crossguard illustrating a stylized eagle's head and wings centred by a black enamelled swastika inside a circle on both sides, engraved "1307" and "DRP" (Deutsche Reichspost) on the bottom of crossguard on either side of the centre point. Dark wooden handle fits tight to the crossguard and pommel, exhibiting very light contact and without chipping, embedded finely-detailed aluminum Postal Protection eagle insignia rates extremely fine, the dagger measuring 377 mm in length. The scabbard is magnetic, with nickel-plated fittings and complemented by the black anodized steel body, both the chape and locket are held firmly in place via two screws each, rings attached to the band and locket with chains attached, the chains housing an original dagger hanger clip marked "DRGM" (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster), the scabbard fittings exhibiting light contact, the black anodized steel body with scattered chipping, the scabbard measuring 265 mm in length. Other than the two chains, all parts are original to the dagger. Extremely fine.
