Germany, Feuerschutzpolizei. A Fire Protection Police EM/NCO’s Dress Bayonet
(Feuerschutzpolizei Bajonett für Mannschaften und Unteroffizier). An extremely well-preserved Feuerschutzpolizei (Fire Protection Police) dress bayonet, measuring 41 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 25 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and lower edge, and fullers running approximately two-thirds of the length of each side of the top edge. The blade sits securely within a one-piece, nickel-plated, non-magnetic metal hilt with classic Feuerschutzpolizei double hooked quillons, with an intact black leather buffer pad covering the seam. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite compose the handle grip, and are secured together with dual non-magnetic metal rivets. Accompanying the bayonet is its original scabbard, constructed of a black-painted magnetic metal shaft. Emanating from the side is a downward-pointing hook for the accommodation of a frog. The throat retains a functional spring catch to firmly hold the bayonet in place during storage, and is secured together with a single side rivet. Demonstrating only minor, age-appropriate issues which include some running marks to the blade and sporadic bubbling of the nickel plating, the bayonet is in an extremely fine condition.
