A German Red Cross Officer’s Dagger with Matching Portepee
Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (DKR) Officer’s Dagger; 381 mm with the scabbard on, this dagger features a diamond shaped, unmarked, 248 mm nickel-plated magnetic steel blade, with unsharpened edges, remaining bright and crisp, and having a very sharp tip. The leather washer at the crossguard junction remains intact and the blade only exhibits light wear from extraction and return to the scabbard, with natural shine and scattered surface wear. The swastika and eagle on the obverse of the crossguard medallion retains much of its guilt with only some wear on the swastika. The steel based, nickel-silver plated scabbard has a pebbled design, with two attachment points for dagger hangers, and exhibits some light spotting with both throat retaining screws intact. The zinc based, nickel-silver plated crossguard and pommel are both in excellent condition, as well as the pommel screw cap, all of which exhibit only light wear marks. The darker pumpkin-coloured celluloid grip is well preserved. Dagger with period red-cross portepee fabricated from fine aluminum bullion wire; the head in multiple rows of twisted wire; the centre of the head in loops of embroidery; the stem in a thatched design; the cord with signature red cross red threading. Dagger is a bit loose with the blade, crossguard, grip, and pommel being slightly wobbly, but overall better than very fine condition. (C:49)
