A fine triple etched example measuring 945 mm with the scabbard on, this sword features an 802 mm long, slightly-curved, fullered, nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, with a blade spine incorporating an etched leafed pattern from the handle to the mid-point, along with a single dull edge, the blade itself etched on both sides with various trophy-of-arms insignia (helmet, armoured breast plate, cannons, drums, flags, etc.) interlaced with an ornate leafed pattern from the handle to the mid-point, remaining bright and crisp, and having a very sharp tip. The blade's ricasso is maker marked "G. WOLLNER & Co. BERLIN", while the blade itself retains its crossgraining, exhibiting the usual in and out runner marks, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, natural shine, scattered surface wear and fine nicks, very fine. Brown leather buffer pad exhibits fraying at its ends but remains intact. Gilt brass crossguard with quillon, a silver miner's crossed hammer and mallet insignia representative of the Mining Service (Bergbau) is affixed in place on the obverse langet on the crossguard, the langet on the reverse is blank, the ferrule also in gilt brass. Black celluloid plates incorporate a pebbled finish and come with eleven rows of silvered wire in a braided pattern, in the recesses of the ribbed grip, each row with larger angled wire in the centre flanked by a single row of smaller angled wire on both sides running in the opposite direction to that of the centre row. The plates are embedded onto either side of the handle and held in place via a long central brass pin that passes through the supporting guard, running from the crossguard and wrapping around the pommel, joining on to the opposite end of the crossguard, forming the handle. The guard, pommel and handle are absent of design, the guard and handle completed with a rare portapee wrapped around them in the appropriate fashion, the knot in gold-coloured bullion wire with a black and silver embroidered centre, the aluminum stem covered in gold-coloured bullion wire in a checkered-pattern, the strap in fine gold-coloured and silvered bullion wire interlaced with light brown embroidery and is free of fraying. The sword measures 922 mm in length and weighs 654 grams overall, exhibiting overall gilt wear, spotting and contact marks on the brass fittings. The scabbard has a smooth-finished black leather-wrapped body, with flattened u-shaped finial, mid-band and locket in gilt brass, the finial and locket both held in place by a single dual-prong pin, the pin on the mid-band having been lost to time and subsequently allows it to slide freely along the body of the scabbard. The locket and mid-band each with a suspension ring, the ring on the mid-band with a short smooth-finished black leather strap with two buckles, one in gilt brass, the other in magnetic black-finished metal, dual riveted in place. The scabbard measures 800 mm in length and weighs 239 grams, exhibiting overall gilt wear, spotting and contact marks on the brass fittings, along with surface wear and scuffs on the smooth-finished black leather-wrapped body, the stitching on the reverse of the scabbard remaining intact. Very fine.(C:49)
