Germany, Luftstreitkräfte. A Cut-Off Section of Camouflage Cloth from a Downed German Plane, Western Front, c. 1918
(Lozenge-Tarnung). Constructed of a linen-blended composite fabric finished on the exterior with a weatherproof lacquer in a classic oilcloth style, dyed in a four-colour Lozenge camouflage pattern consisting of light brown, dark green, and rust-brown geometric shapes (with the light brown fourth colour not included due to size of cut-out), with a paper label embroidered to the exterior bearing a handwritten inscription indicating the the material was retrieved from a German aircraft downed over the Western Front in 1918, measuring 110 mm (w) x 180 mm (h), a fascinating battlefield relic in extremely fine condition.
