This is an extremely well preserved Unterseebootsflottille Hundius Mützenband/cap tally; constructed of golden embroidery on a black rayon backer; measuring 151 cm x 32 cm; in extremely fine lightly wrinkled condition.
Footnote: The Hundius Flotilla was a front-line unit of the Third Reich Kriegsmarine. It was formed on October 1, 1938 under the command of Werner Hartmann, named in honour of Captain Lieutenant Paul Hundius, a successful U-Boat commander from the First War. The flotilla was disbanded in December 1939. It was re-formed under the new name “6th U-Boat Flotilla” in July 1941, under the command of Georg-Wilhelm Schulz, where it was first used as a training flotilla until 1942, when it became a combat flotilla. During the Third War, a total of 92 U-boats were assigned to the flotilla, all of which were either sunk or otherwise lost at sea. It was disbanded in August 1944.
