She saw action on the coast of Spain, in the waters in Norway, France and Italy, where her main duties consisted of laying mines and hunting down and destroying blockade runners. She was heavily damaged by British mines and air-attacks on the coast of France in 1944. On its journey back to Germany, she was attacked again by British aircraft near the northern coast of France. She was deemed irreparable and scuttled later the same year.
