Germany, Police. A "Landwacht" Auxiliary Police Visor Cap Eagle
In silvered die-stamped zinc, unmarked, 46.7 mm x 52 mm, pinback, scattered silvering wear, near extremely fine. Footnote: In January 1942, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, in his position as Chef der Deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern (Chief of the German Police in the National Ministry of the Interior) established the Landwacht (Land Watch/Guards), to be utilized in guarding prisoners of war when on work details outside of the prisons, but within the borders of the Greater German Reich. The Landwacht personnel were outfitted with Gendarmerie (Rural Police) police uniforms with a distinctive identifying armband and a cap badge. The design of the Landwacht cap badge was based on the second pattern police cap badge (circa June 1936 - May 1945), with the addition of an inscribed banner.
