An early manufacture German “Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer”; multi-piece construction oval gilded tombac with a silvered tombac globe; the obverse with a Viking longship sailing over the northern hemisphere of the globe, with an oval border of oak leaves, and a national eagle at the top of the badge clutching a mobile swastika; the reverse with a vertical silvered banjo style pin, barrel hinge, and a flat wire catch; maker marked “Schwerin, Berlin” on the reverse; measuring 57.09 mm x 44.45 mm; weighing 35.7 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper; with a navy lightly textured faux leather (leatherette) exterior; lined interior lid with a slotted medal bed; intact interior fabric hinge cover; severed external leatherette hinge; measuring 81 mm x 74 mm; with approximately 80 of the original gilt intact; a lightly worn example; in overall near extremely fine condition.
