A rare and complete Blockade Runner Badge set, including a badge, constructed of silvered and patinated tombak, the obverse consisting of a circular chain wreath, with a central blockade runner cutting through waves, with the bow overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the head of the eagle extending beyond the wreath, the reverse with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, designer marked “OTTO PLACZEK, BERLIN”, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 48.68 mm in diameter, weighing 36.3 grams; accompanied by its miniature pin, of identical construction and composition, unmarked, measuring 25.76 mm in diameter, weighing 6.5 grams; also accompanied by a period original presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux dark blue leather exterior, the interior with a blue satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted dark blue velvet medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release and dual functional metal hinges, unmarked, measuring 105 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), minor loss of finish and material fatigue evident to the badges and case, respectively, in overall near extremely fine condition.
