Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Blockade Runner Group, by Schwerin
(Abzeichen für Blockadebrecher mit Anstecknadel und Plakette). A Blockade Runner Badge, constructed of partially silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a circular chain link wreath, with a central blockade runner cutting through waves and a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika across the bow, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, designer marked “OTTO PLACZEK, BERLIN”, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 48.88 mm in diameter, weighing 31.1 grams, with age-appropriate oxidation evident, in overall better than very fine condition; accompanied by a stick pin miniature, of identical construction and composition, unmarked, measuring 26.34 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition; also including a hand-made commemorative plaque, constructed of a card stock backer, the obverse bearing a hand-carved and etched depiction of the badge in wood bark, above an inscription of “BLOCKADEBRECHER-ABZ.”, unmarked and undated, measuring 165 mm (w) x 225 mm (h), with some material fatigue evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
