Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Coastal Artillery War Badge, by C.E. Juncker
(Kriegsabzeichen für die Marineartillerie). Constructed of gilded and silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central depiction of a coastal artillery gun with its barrel raised and extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, designer marked “OTTO PLACZEK, BERLIN” and maker marked “C.E. JUNCKER, BERLIN”, measuring 41.52 mm (w) x 53.59 mm (h), weighing 27.6 grams, demonstrating total loss of silver finish with evidence of polishing, in very fine condition.
