Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Coastal Artillery War Badge, by Hermann Aurich
(Kriegsabzeichen für die Marineartillerie). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, with a central depiction of a coastal artillery gun with its barrel raised over a background of waves, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Hermann Aurich, Dresden measuring 41.46 mm (w) x 53.85 mm (h), weighing 21.5 grams, with loss of finish evident throughout, in overall fair condition.
