Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Coastal Artillery War Badge, by Schwerin & Sohn
(Kriegsabzeichen für die Marineartillerie). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central coastal artillery gun with its barrel raised and extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 41.32 mm (w) x 54.54 mm (h), weighing 25.2 grams, with minor oxidation and loss of finish evident throughout, in better than very fine condition.
