Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Destroyer War Badge, by Gebrüder Wegerhoff
(Zerstörerkriegsabzeichen). Constructed of gilded and silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central depiction of a destroyer cutting through waves, with its bow extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a block hinge and horizontal banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Gebrüder Wegerhoff, Lüdenscheid, measuring 44.66 mm (w) x 54.27 mm (h), weighing 25.9 grams, the obverse swastika has been mostly ground out and the reverse stabilizer is missing, in fair condition.
