Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Destroyer War Badge, by Schwerin
(Zerstörerkriegsabzeichen). Constructed of gilded and silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central depiction of a destroyer cutting through waves, with its bow extending beyond the left edge of the wreath, the reverse topped by a stabilizer, with a block hinge and banjo-style horizontal pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 45.14 mm (w) x 53.45 mm (h), weighing 24.2 grams, accompanied by a mis-matched but Third Reich-period original case, constructed of two pieces of card stock, unmarked, measuring 54 mm (w) x 65 mm (l) x 15 mm (h), in overall extremely fine condition.
