Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Minesweeper War Badge, by Schwerin & Sohn
(Kriegsabzeichen für Minensuch-, U-Boot-Jagd- und Sicherungsverbände). Constructed of gilded tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with a central depiction of a sea mine exploding, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, designer marked “OTTO PLACZEK, BERLIN” and maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 43.08 mm (w) x 53.79 mm (h), weighing 25.7 grams, some loss of finish is apparent and there is evidence of repair to the catch, in overall very fine condition.
