An ovular badge constructed of gilded zinc (15% gild remains), the obverse centre bears a cut-out Viking-style ship with a dragon head stempost, on board the ship is a soldier holding a spear in front of a row of shields, the ship is sailing on the northern end of the globe and the globe has longitude and latitude lines throughout and the embossed outlines of Great Britain, Western Europe and North Africa, this is encompassed by a gilded oak leaf wreath with a national eagle with outstretched wings clutching a swastika on the top, the reverse is plain and bears a soldered vertical pinback with a round wire catch, the reverse bears the maker mark “f.o” with a small square to the upper left side indicating the maker Friedrich Orth, measuring 44.60 mm (w) x 57.11 mm (h), weighing 27.2 g, fine
