Germany Kriegsmarine. An Auxiliary Cruiser War Badge
(Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Kriegsmarine-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, with a central globe depicting the North Atlantic and the coasts of Europe and North Africa, topped by a Viking longship crewed by warriors clutching shields and spears, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by an unidentified maker using the Förster & Barth design, measuring 44.96 mm (w) x 57.47 mm (h), weighing 33.2 grams, most of the gilt and silver finish has been lost, in overall very fine condition.
