Constructed of gilded and silvered feinzink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a swastika, around a detailed map of the Northern Hemisphere, topped by a Viking longship cutting through waves, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, the pinback maker marked with LDO code “L/21” for Förster & Barth, Pforzheim, measuring 44.65 mm (w) x 56.90 mm (h), weighing 31.3 grams, with replacement of catch and loss of finish evident throughout, in overall fair condition.
