Germany, Kriegsmarine. An Auxiliary Cruiser War Badge, by Foerster & Barth
(Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer). Constructed of gilded and silvered feinzink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a mobile swastika, with a central viking longship sailing over a globe, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, with a single visible rivet holding the obverse globe in place, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Foerster & Barth, Pforzheim, measuring 44.40 mm (w) x 57.60 mm (h), weighing 29.1 grams, some loss of finish evident, in overall better than very fine condition.
