Germany, Kriegsmarine. An Auxiliary Cruiser War Badge, by Friedrich Orth
(Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a mobile swastika, with a central depiction of the Northern Hemisphere topped by a Viking longship, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Friedrich Orth, measuring 45.56 mm (w) x 56.57 mm (h), weighing 34.6 grams, with moderate loss of finish evident, in very fine condition.
