Germany, Kriegsmarine. An Auxiliary Cruiser War Badge, by Schwerin
(Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer). Constructed of gilded tombak with aluminum, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central depiction of a Viking longship sailing over the Northern Hemisphere, the reverse with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 44.45 mm (w) x 57.08 mm (h), weighing 36.0 grams, in extremely fine condition.
