Germany, Kriegsmarine. An Auxiliary Cruiser War Badge, by Schwerin & Sohn
(Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer). Constructed of gilded zink with aluminum, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around an aluminum globe depicting the Northern Hemisphere, topped by a Viking longship cutting through waves, the reverse with a low-set flattened rivet securing the obverse globe in place, with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 44.34 mm (w) x 57.14 mm (h), weighing 31.5 grams, with moderate loss of finish and some oxidation evident throughout, in very fine condition.
