Germany, Kriegsmarine. An Auxiliary Cruiser War Badge, by Steinhauer & Lück
(Kriegsabzeichen für Hilfskreuzer). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central depiction of a Viking longship sailing over the Northern Hemisphere, the reverse with a single rivet securing the obverse applique in place, with a crimped barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of manufacture by Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid,, measuring 44.34 mm (w) x 57.43 mm (h), weighing 28.5 grams, with loss of finish evident throughout, in very fine condition.
