Germany, Kriegsmarine. An E-Boat War Badge, by C. Schwerin & Sohn, 2nd Pattern, Variation 1
(Zerstörerkriegsabzeichen). A badge constructed of gilded and silvered zink, in the shape of a gilded oval, oak leaf wreath, held together by a band at the centre bottom, in the centre at mid-height is a silvered E-Boat speeding to the left through breaking waves, the top of the badge is crowned by a national eagle with spread wings, looking left, reverse, with a center catch for stabilization and a horizontal banjo style pinback with a short barrel hinge and a flat rectangular wire catch, maker marked Schwerin, Berlin and designer marked Peekhaus, Berlin on the reverse, measuring 51.69 mm (w) x 59.85 mm (h), weighing 28.5 grams, with the majority of its original finish not intact, and in overall near very fine condition.
