A Hero’s Death Notice (208x295mm, near extremely fine) to Matrose Ernst Meier of the 4th Minesweeping Flotilla, who died on June 12, 1941. The document is dated to Cuxhaven on August 2, 1941 and is signed in black ink by a Captain Lieutenant, his name is indecipherable. A Wehrpaß (105x147mm, very fine), dated to May 7, 1938. A labour book (106x147mm, very fine), dated to May 4, 1940.
Footnote: Ernst Meier was born on March 8, 1901 in Schmieheim (south-west Germany). For most of his life he worked as a farmer and innkeeper. Meier was drafted on August 26, 1939 and placed in the Construction Column 54. He received his initial training until February 25, 1940. However, after this Meier then went to the famous navy school in Mürwik, northern Germany, for 2 months of training. He then joined the 4th Minesweeper Flotilla in August of 1940. On January 4, 1941 Meier received the Iron Cross 2nd Class, and roughly five weeks later he was awarded the Minesweeper Badge. He was killed in action on June 12, 1941. However, there is a Feldpost letter with his Wehrpaß which is addressed to him and dated to April 1943, almost two years after he died. The letter states that Meier should be ready to be drafted again if the necessity arises. This is most likely a bureaucratic error.
