A Cased Early Quality Luftwaffe Pilot’s Badge by Berg & Nolte
A fine early quality textbook example of a “Pilotenabzeichen”; two-piece construction; with a nickel silver oval wreath with laurel wreaths towards the left side and oak leaves towards the right side, separated by three small ribbon-like loops on the bottom, with a large patinated eagle with spread-out wings superimposed on the badge, clutching a swastika in its talons; two rivets on the reverse; vertical needle style pinback with a sheet metal hinge and a round wire catch; slightly vaulted; maker marked “B&N L” for “Berg & Nolte, Lüdenscheid” on the reverse; measuring 53.28 mm x 64.91 mm; weighing 47.2 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of lightly textured black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; the outside lid embossed “Luftwaffenflugzeugführerabzeichen” in golden lettering; lined interior lid with a slotted medal bed to allow proper award seating; functional spring catch with stud release; intact interior fabric hinge cover; functional external metal hinge; measuring 85 mm x 75 mm; with moderate to the interior liner of the lid from where the eagle makes contact with the case, and with the eagle in overall near extremely fine condition.
