Germany. An Early Quality Luftwaffe Pilot’s Badge by Friedrich Linden
A fine early quality textbook example of a “Pilotenabzeichen”; two-piece construction; silvered tombac oval wreath with laurel leaves towards the left side side, and oak leaves towards the right side of the wreath, separated by three small ribbon-like loops on the bottom, with a large patinated eagle with spread-out wings superimposed on the badge, clutching a swastika in its talons; two rivets on the reverse - tightly holding the eagle on the wreath; vertical needle style pinback with a barrel hinge and a round wire catch; an unmarked example, but depicting the trademark manufacturing characteristics of “Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid”; measuring 63.33 mm (w) x 53.02 mm(h); weighing 46.7 grams; slightly vaulted; in better than extremely fine condition.
