Germany, Luftwaffe. A Bomber Clasp, Silver Grade, with Case
(Frontflugspange für Kampf- und Sturzkampfflieger in Silber mit Etui). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a central circular laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a swastika, surrounding a downward-pointing winged bomb of patinated bronze composition, flanked on each side by nine oak leaves, the reverse with a single visible rivet securing the bomb in place, with a barrel hinge and tapering horizontal pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 76.52 mm (w) x 25.31 mm (h), weighing 16.3 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt inscription of “FRONTFLUGSPANGE FÜR KAMPFFLIEGER SILBER”, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted beige felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 88 mm (w) x 43 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), minor material fatigue is visible to the case and includes some oxidation and displacement of the catch release which compromises its functionality, a superb example of a zink award retaining virtually all of its original finish in overall near extremely fine condition.
