Germany, Luftwaffe. A Cased Radio Operator Badge, "Thin Wreath", by C.E. Juncker, c. 1937
(Luftwaffe Fliegerschützenabzeichen für Bordfunker mit Etui). Instituted in 1935 by Hermann Göring. (Issued 1935-1945). Constructed of silvered and patinated tombac, the wreath of an early thin type with laurel leaves on the left side of the wreath, and oak leaves on the right side of the wreath, and a mobile swastika on the bottom of the wrath, and an eagle superimposed onto the badge clutching lightning bolts in its talons, the reverse plain, with a vertical needle style pinback, a barrel hinge, and a round wire catch, marked “CEJ” for “C.E, Juncker Berlin”, measuring 40.98 mm (w) x 52.01 mm (h), weighing 24.1 grams. Accompanied by an early-type case of issue to accommodate thin wreath type badges, constructed of heavy cardstock with a lightly textured faux leather (leatherette) exterior, the exterior of the badge embossed with “Bordfunkerabzeichen” in gold lettering, with a lined interior lid, an intact interior fabric hinge cover, a slotted medal bed, a functional spring catch and stud release, and a functional exterior metal hinge, measuring 67 mm (w) x 76 mm (h), in overall better than extremely fine condition.
