Germany, Luftwaffe. A Fallschirmjäger Badge, by G.H. Osang
(Fallschirmschützenabzeichen). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a diving Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the eagle demonstrating the classic screaming expression and third tail feather characteristic of this manufacturer, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a raised and narrow barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “G.H. OSANG, DRESDEN”, measuring 42.46 mm (w) x 52.96 mm (h), weighing 32.2 grams, both the eagle and wreath retaining virtually all original gilt and oxidized finishes, respectively, a striking badge in extremely fine condition.
