Germany, Luftwaffe. A Flak Badge
(Flakkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central Flak 88 with its barrel raised and extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a ball hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of an unattributed example described on pages 230-231 of Marc E. Garlasco’s “The Flak Badges” (2008), measuring 46.12 mm (w) x 68.24 mm (h), weighing 38.4 grams, in near mint condition.
