Germany, Luftwaffe. A Flak Badge
(Flakkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central Flak 88 with its barrel raised and extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a depressed ball hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the physical characteristics of an early and high-quality variation produced by an unidentified manufacturer as described in Mark E. Garlsco’s “The Flak Badges”, 2008, pages 228-233, measuring 46.14 mm (w) x 66.40 mm (h), weighing 40.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.
