Germany, Luftwaffe. A Pilot’s Badge, by Friedrich Linden
(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of silvered tombak and nickel-silver, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a block hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but with the physical characteristics of a type “2A” variation manufactured by Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid, measuring 64.14 mm (w) x 53.03 mm (h), weighing 44.0 grams, with minor loss of silver finish evident, in extremely fine condition.
