Germany, Luftwaffe. A Pilot’s Badge, with Case, by C.E. Juncker
(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of nickel-silver, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked “C.E. JUNCKER, BERLIN SW”, measuring 65.03 mm (w) x 53.23 mm (h), weighing 45.2 grams, accompanied by a period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux dark blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing an embossed and gilded inscription of “LUFTWAFFEN-FLUGZEUGFÜHRER-ABZEICHEN”, the interior with a blue felt lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted blue felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 76 mm (w) x 85 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), the badge demonstrating sporadic tarnishing in addition to minor material fatigue of the case, in overall near extremely fine condition.
