Germany, Luftwaffe. A Pilot’s Badge, with Case, by Gebrüder Wegerhoff
(Flugzeugführerabzeichen mit Etui). Constructed of nickel-silver and tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible dimpled rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a narrow raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flattened and rounded catch, maker marked with the logo of Gebrüder Wegerhoff, Lüdenscheid, measuring 63.20 mm (w) x 52.80 mm (h), weighing 45.0 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux dark blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilded inscription of “LUFTWAFFE FLUGZEUGFÜHRER-ABZEICHEN”, the interior with a dark blue felt lid liner and intact rayon hinge cover, with a slotted medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 80 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 30 mm (h), the reverse of the badge demonstrating a moderate patina, a superb matching set from a desirable manufacturer in an overall extremely fine condition.
