Germany, Luftwaffe. A Radio Operator and Air Gunner Badge with Case, by C.E. Juncker
(Fliegerschützenabzeichen für Bordfunker mit Etui). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a mobile swastika, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching lightning bolts, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked “C.E. JUNCKER, BERLIN”, measuring 43.56 mm (w) x 52.63 mm (h), weighing 28.2 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux dark blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt inscription of “LUFTWAFFEN-FLIEGERSCHÜTZEN-ABZEICHEN”, the interior with a blue rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted blue felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 76 mm (l) x 28 mm (h), with some loss of finish evident to the badge, in overall better than very fine condition.
