Germany, Luftwaffe. A Reconnaissance Clasp, Gold Grade, with Star Pendant

(Frontflugspange für Aufklärer in Gold mit Sternanhänger). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of a central circular laurel wreath, joined together at the bottom by a swastika, surrounding a central raised eagle’s head, flanked on each side by nine oak leaves, with two clips emanating from the bottom of the wreath, securing in place a hanger constructed of gilded zink and consisting of a central star flanked on each side by clusters of laurel leaves, the reverse with a single visible rivet securing the eagle’s head in place, with a barrel hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, the clasp measuring 75.28 mm (w) x 25.29 mm (h), the pendant measuring 35.25 mm (w) x 12.54 mm (h), weighing 20.4 grams, with most of the gilt finish lost, in overall very fine condition.
